Harrison Steel has an opening on second and third shift to train an Industrial Radiographic Technician. The position is responsible for checking the internal soundness of steel castings through nondestructive testing procedures primarily focused on radiographic testing (RT) to ensure customer requirements are achieved and are in compliance. Once trained, this position will work either our 2nd Shift (3pm-11pm) or 3rd Shift (11pm-7am). While on either 2nd or 3rd shift, this position will receive a $1.00/hr shift bonus.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILIES

  • Radiographic tests (utilizing gamma rays) castings in priority order.
  • Logs daily utilization of equipment and daily utilization of radiation source.
  • Performs and logs daily maintenance check of radiographic devices and warning equipment.
  • Ultrasonically tests (UT) castings when required per specification(s).
  • Starts up, operates, shuts down, cleans, maintains and replenishes chemicals for all equipment used for RT and UT.
  • Locates and transfers with a fork truck all casting to be gamma rayed.

Competency

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient in training and demonstrating the proper execution of textbook lessons and other training aids to assist in the certification of other Soundness Technicians.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Basic knowledge of computers is required.

Certificates and Licenses: Is able to perform all of the essential duties and responsibilities from above, with minimal to no supervision. He/she can only perform radiography once certified to RT Level I & II. To achieve certification, must pass a FBI background check, take 80 classroom hours, and 2000 on-the-job hours. All training will be completed on first shift. This position also required an active driver's license.
