Summary: Engages and assists with engineering projects directed at modifying, upgrading, and improving the plant electrical control and distribution system.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Other duties may be assigned.

  • Completes assigned electrical engineering projects as assigned by the Engineering Manager.
  • Programs, maintains, troubleshoots, and installs Allen Bradley PLC's, HMI's, and associated I/O modules using Allen Bradley software.
  • Assists in the company safety program by performing electrical safety audits and identifying/correcting electrical violations in accordance with the NEC.
  • Supports the maintenance and facilities department in troubleshooting and resolution of electrical problems.
  • Assists other engineers in the electrical phase of design, both in new equipment installations and retrofits of old equipment.
  • Engineers changes to physical plant systems including the power distribution system, plant lighting, equipment controls, HVAC systems, and associated interconnections.
  • Maintains the plant's high voltage distribution system, including switchgear and transformer maintenance, thermal imaging, system upgrades, and troubleshooting.
  • Supervises the completion of tasks delegated to outside contractors at HS in the field of electrical engineering.
  • Follows job work instructions, where applicable.

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEET); or at least five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

Math Ability:

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, and analysis.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills:

Should be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Desired skills include familiarity with the following software: RSLogix5, RSLogix500, RSLogix5000, and FactoryTalk ME/SE Edition. Familiarization with communication protocols including Ethernet IP, DH+, DH-485, and RS-232.

Training Requirements: Laboratory and classroom work at the university level. Hands-on experience in the plant. Basic supervisor training.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee is frequently required to stand. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Additional Information: Due to the high (almost instantaneous) speed of electricity, the Electrical Engineer needs to focus intently on the problem at hand and the immediate action he/she is about to take.
