Summary: Works with a team to manufacture a sand mold in the Floor Molding area to receive liquid metal.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Starts up, operates, and shuts down the Palmer Mixer.
  • Inspects the chemical tanks and chemical system.
  • Inspects mixer auger and blades for adjustment or replacement.
  • Ensures all flasks and supplies are available for the molding operation, checks flasks and inserts for damage and wear.
  • Inspects and cleans patterns before and after use.
  • Follows set molding procedures set forth on the process sheets.
  • Verifies that the NUMERALKOD and serial number on the pattern are correct.
  • Verifies the correct tile sprue, vents, heads, sleeves, chills, and flasks are set on the pattern.
  • Verifies the mixer is working correctly before filling molds and on the correct settings for steel.
  • Inspects and maintains iron oxide levels in the hopper.
  • Sets vibrating settings according to process sheets.
  • Assists with the cleanup and inspection of the mixer for the next production shift
  • Completes the preparation, finishing, and closing operations to ensure that mold procedures are followed per the part-specific process.
  • Verifies the mold is useable after removing the mold from the pattern.
  • Inspects mold prior to core setting to verify that finishing has been completed.
  • Assists with core assembly.
  • Ensures the quality of work being performed.
  • Inspects lifting devices for wear and condition.
  • Operates stiff-leg crane in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Communicates to the supervisor of any quality or equipment problems.
  • Follows job work instructions and training matrix, where applicable.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

High school education or GED preferred, but not required.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.

Math Ability:

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

Basic working knowledge of computer programs preferred

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme heat (non-weather) and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
